A recent study finds that South Dakota is the worst state for teen drivers. The WalletHub study analyzed safety, economic, and policy metrics to rank states in terms of how safe it is for teens to be on the roads. Spokesperson, Jill Gonzalez says one of the most important metrics the y used was the Graduated Licensing Program and the related laws within each state.

Gonzalez says South Dakota is pretty lax in terms of the policies surrounding teen drivers.

Other metrics analyzed included the number of teens killed in accidents each year and the prevalence of drunk driving among teens.

Several states in the region also ranked low on the list, with Iowa 39th, Nebraska 45th, Wyoming 47th, North Dakota 48th, and Montana 49th before South Dakota rounded out the bottom. New York topped the list.
