Meade County South Dakota rancher Tammy (bay-zull)Basel is running for Vice President of the National Farmers Union.  The election will take place at their convention in March in Minneapolis. Basel says there are several reasons she decided to run including the desire to educate young people and consumers about agriculture, as well as weigh in on important issues.

She says if elected a major part of her agenda will be to assist family farmers.  Basel also wants to see a workable and WTO compliant Country of Origin Labeling law brought back following its recent repeal because consumers want to know where their food comes from.

Basel also assumed another leadership position recently being appointed to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
