A U.S. Meat Export Federation team made up of livestock producers were in Japan last week meeting with buyers of U.S. pork and beef. MEF Executive Committee member Wanda Blair ranches near Vale, South Dakota. She says there’s a lot of potential for future business with the Japanese.
She says many of the Japanese customers they visited with were disappointed at the U.S. withdrawing from the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement although they may still be interested in a bilateral trade deal with the U.S.
Blair says their MEF team made good contact with several Japanese retailers.
Besides cattle and pork producers the U.S. MEF delegation was also represented by several American corn and soybean growers.
