The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has given its approval to the Crowned Ridge Wind farm in Grant and Codington counties. Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson says the approval was given with some conditions including a requirement that land is properly reclaimed, there’s no excess sound levels and that there’s adequate money available whenever the project is decommissioned.
He says it’s a large project that covers more than 53,000 acres.
Northern States Power doing business as Xcel Energy will purchase energy produced by the wind farm which will cost $400 million. Construction is expected to be completed in 2020. Nelson says they’re also working on some other wind projects including one called Crowned Ridge two by the same developer.
Nelson says they’ll also be considering two other wind projects, one for Deuel County and the other for the Miller area.
