Ag United of South Dakota is teaming up with the Pechous family to host an open house on Saturday at their 240-cow family dairy and feedlot near Tabor. Kyle Pechous says the family has been milking cows on their farm since 1980 and when they wanted to expand they decided a robotic milking system was the best fit for their operation. The family built a tunnel ventilated free-stall barn that houses the robotic milking units.
He says they have four robotic milking units and the milking is done at the will of each individual cow, between one and six times per day.
Pechous says they’re excited to have people out to their farm to tour the operation and show them the technology in today’s dairy industry and how they are sustainable and responsible operators.
The open house runs Saturday from 10am to 1pm. It features a free cheeseburger and brat lunch, with ice cream for dessert. The farm is located one mile east and one and a half miles north of Tabor.
