Three South Dakota cattle producers have been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board. They include: Past South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Cory Eich of Canova, Tammy Basel of Union Center and Gary Sharp of Bath. Eich says the biggest challenge will be to determine where to spend the limited amount of beef check off funds.
He says the beef check off has shown its worth to producers and has brought several benefits for the industry.
Eich got his feet wet a few weeks ago attending one of the cattlemen’s beef board meetings at the recent NCBA convention.
The CBB oversees the collection of the dollar per head on all cattle sold in the U.S. beef check off program. Those dollars are utilized for promotion, education and research.
