The U.S. House is expected to take up the conferenced passed farm bill today. Not included in the measure is the King Amendment which would have prevented states from banning the sale of an agricultural product due to objections to production methods. South Dakota Pork Producers President Lester Moeller says he’s disappointed that wasn’t in the bill.
Moeller says he’s hoping they’ll be able to bring back the King amendment through different legislation in the future even though it won’t be part of the farm bill.
Moeller says he’s pleased the conference committee was finally able to report a farm bill out so that Congress can have an opportunity to pass legislation to give producers certainty going forward.
