South Dakota, Nebraska & the Federal Government Agree on Goat Island

Officials from South Dakota, Nebraska and the federal government have reached agreement over jurisdiction of Goat Island in the Missouri River. The five-hundred-acre island is in the river between Yankton and Vermillion, and jurisdiction has been in dispute for many years.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says it was time to settle…..

Under the agreement, the National Park Service will manage the island as part of the Missouri National Recreational River.
Jackley says it is in the public interest……

Jackley says this is the end of what were a number of state line disagreements with Nebraska…..

The Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service will coordinate with the two states over future development.
