The South Dakota Legislature is expected to return to Pierre in June for a special session called by the Governor. South Dakota Farm Bureau Lobbyist Mike Held says their major focus will be the budget and they’ll have to make decisions on how to pare that down.
He says how those cuts could impact agriculture isn’t known yet as they’re awaiting more information on how the economy is and will perform.
Held says it’s likely none of the programs that were previously funded will be immune from any possible cut.
Held says due to the economic conditions it will be difficult for state lawmakers to come up with any funding assistance for farmers and ranchers impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic.
