South Dakota Legislators Took Their Time on Veto Day

South Dakota legislators took most of the day last Friday debating a style and form veto before finally approving it.
Governor Kristi Noem vetoed parts of SB176 that set up funding for pheasant habitat. The intent of the bill was to take one million dollars from the 2019 budget, but a date was not included.

Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton says he thought the changes were more than just a drafting error….

Kennedy says he agreed with the original intent….

Kennedy says there should be enough surplus in the current budget to cover those costs….

The changes approved by legislators makes the bill effective in late June.
