South Dakota Legislators Question Ag Land Assessments

The Ag Land Assessment Task Force of the South Dakota legislature held their first meeting of the summer this week. The group has been overseeing the progress of the transition of property taxation to a productivity base.
The group got an update on the assessment process, and a soil rating study being done by South Dakota State University.
Landowner Debra Nightingale from Meade County told the task force there is a disconnect between the assessment and actual use of land in their area….

Task Force Chairman, Representative Larry Rhoden of Union Center, says the rules are not being applied fairly across the state…..

Rhoden says the task force has to come up with some solutions…..

The task force will meet several more times before the 2019 legislative session.
