South Dakota Legislators Pass Budget Bills Early Wednesday Morning

South Dakota legislators went into overtime, working to complete the final budgets early Wednesday morning in an attempt to avoid the major winter storm.

First up was Senate Bill 180, which fills out the 2019 budget.
Senator John Wiik of Big Stone City, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, says it takes care of some vital priorities…

Wiik says the bill also adds more state aid to education, and raises for state employees…

That bill passed on a vote of twenty-six to three. It passed through the House on a vote of fifty-eight to one.

SB191 is the general spending bill for fiscal year 2020.
Wiik says there is more money included for their priority, nursing homes…..

Senator Stace Nelson of Fulton objected, concerned about a veto from the Governor….

That bill passed the Senate on a vote of twenty seven to two. It earlier passed in the House on a vote of fifty three to six. Both Houses then adjourned until the final day on March 29th.
