The 2019 session of the South Dakota legislature may have bills making changes in how ag land is assessed for property taxes.
The system was changed several years ago so property taxes were based on land productivity instead of sales prices.
Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot, a member of the Ag Land Property Assessment Task Force, says they may have to change the definition of land use…..
Frerichs says the assessment system has gone through a complete cycle…..
Frerichs says the problems they hear about are at the county level…..
The task force will meet again in September, and may make legislative recommendation then.
