South Dakota State Senator Jason Frerichs is optimistic about finding solutions to the state’s wetland and drainage issues after attending the Wetland Issues Meeting in Aberdeen. He says the backlog has been costly for producers.

Frerichs leads the state legislative committee that’s developing rules to govern wetlands and drainage in South Dakota. He says he gathered some valuable input at the meeting , especially the news that NRCS is working on mitigation.

He says however, they still want to make sure in the final rules the state involvement in drainage issues remains limited.
