South Dakota Legislative Committee Gets Update on Subpoena Powers

South Dakota legislators this year passed a bill (SB125) to clarify the authority of their Government Operations and Audit Committee to issues subpoenas, and compel witnesses to testify.

Meeting before the start of the final day of the session Monday morning, Doug Decker, Code Counsel for the Legislative Research Council, told the committee that they are working out details of the process……..

Decker says there could still be some questions of enforcing the subpoena…..

Decker says the bill passed this year clarifies the steps that can be taken to compel testimony……

No action was taken on the issue. Committee Chair, Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says they will take it up again at their next meeting.
