The South Dakota Legislature’s Rules Review Committee met with the State Departments of Agriculture and Public Safety and approved the rules for growing of industrial hemp. South Dakota Industrial Hemp Association leaders also met with the committee. Executive Director Katie Sieverding says the application process for growers and processors will now begin in 20 days.

She says those farmers who want to grow industrial hemp for the 2021 growing season will have sixty days from the end of this year to make application to proceed.

Sieverding says she’s hearing a lot of interest in those wanting to grow industrial hemp, and their Association Vice President Derrick (doe-mun) Dohman with Horizon Hemp Seed has also been getting a lot of interest from growers.

Sieverding says those wanting more information about industrial hemp or the rules should contact the State Department of Agriculture and can also go the South Dakota Industrial Hemp Association’s web site.
