South Dakota’s Congressional delegation is questioning the latest Conservation Reserve Program general sign-up results. Only 101 acres in South Dakota were accepted into the program. Senator Mike Rounds says he was hoping for a better acceptance for the state. He says CRP is a cost effective program that yields positive results for both agriculture and the environment.
Rounds says he and the rest of the South Dakota delegation have written to Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack asking for a re-evaluation of the CRP selection process.
Under the 49th general CRP signup, South Dakota landowners submitted 727 applications on over 42,000 acres, but only 101 acres were accepted.
