A special session of the South Dakota legislature in 2017 set the guidelines for access to non-meandered lakes in the state.
Over the years, heavy rains helped lakes flood onto private land, in eastern and northeastern parts of the state.
Game, Fish and Parks Department Secretary Kelly Hepler says the compromise from that session seems to be working….

Hepler says the law doesn’t need any tweaking right now…

Hepler says at this point, his agency doesn’t have a legislative agenda…..

Hepler was re-appointed to his position by Governor-elect Kristi Noem.
