South Dakota Interim Legislative Committee Updated on Meth Mess

An interim legislative committee is trying to get a handle on the extent of drug problems in South Dakota.
The “Fighting Methamphetamine Addiction” subgroup met yesterday (Tuesday) in Pierre. The committee is tasked to study how the state is doing in helping people escape meth addiction.

As the committee wrapped up, Representative Doug Post of Brookings says they need more information on existing drug treatment programs..

Post says they can’t put new dollars into treatment until they know what is being spent now….

Committee Chairman, Senator Troy Heinert of Mission says he wants to work with Governor Kristi Noem on any expansion of treatment options….

The committee also wants to invite representatives from the Governors office, Departments of Social Services and Health and Tribal Relations to their next meeting.
