A Trade team from Taiwan was in South Dakota for two days this week before heading off to Idaho today. The group of 9 represented the Taiwan Flour Millers Association and Department of Economic Development. South Dakota Agriculture Secretary Kim Vanneman says it’s been a great opportunity to continue the important relationships South Dakota has established with Taiwan and continues to grow with this visit.

South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Reid Christopherson says the Taiwanese purchase their wheat on the basis of quality and like what South Dakota’s been able to provide.

Christopherson says by showing them the wheat firsthand they can describe the weather challenges growers have been under this year and are still able to provide them the wheat they need and want.

Christopherson says they led a tour of a wheat farm near Gettysburg and had them visit the Oahe grain elevator. Today the group leaves for Idaho to look at the White Wheat. While in South Dakota and their earlier trip to Oklahoma the trade team examined both Hard Red Winter and Hard Red Spring Wheat crops.
