South Dakota has been ranked ninth in a year-long study by the American Transportation Research Institute for motor-carrier safety and enforcement.  The organization searched for states that demonstrate a balanced approach to enforcement activities that involve commercial trucks and measure the number of truck crashes, violations, and inspections.

Captain John Broers is District Commander for the Motor Carrier Division of the State Highway Patrol.  He says our highways are safe for trucks because enforcement is targeting the right things…

Broers says the study also found that budgeted funds are being used very effectively…

He says the study will be analyzed by his division in order to identify ways to improve education and enforcement efforts to eliminate truck crashes in South Dakota.
