South Dakota farmers are in the process of making preparations for winter wheat planting which will occur in early September. South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Reid Christopherson says despite the price challenges there are some great opportunities for those choosing to put in winter wheat.
He says producers have several varieties to choose from when planting winter wheat.
Christopherson says he wouldn’t be surprised if a million and a half acres get planted to winter wheat this year.
Christopherson advises growers to manage their vegetation and residue in order to prevent any disease carryover that might occur..
