This week, the House Ag Subcommittee held a hearing looking at biotechnology and the importance of it to the ag industry.. A Vermont dairy farmer testified that biotech crops are safe but that agricultural officials have failed to effectively communicate that to the public. Former National Corn Growers Bio Tech Committee chairman and Mitchell South Dakota grower Chad Blindauer says while communication has gotten better, there’s room and need for improvement.
He says biotech is not only safe but it’s an important economic tool for producers trying to feed a growing global population.
Blindauer says U.S. trade negotiators need to make sure and defend biotechnology as they work out the Trans Atlantic Trade And Investment Partnership agreement with the European Union.
