South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard recently met with the Federal Employee Defense Services (FEDS) discussing the next steps with Medicaid expansion in the state.
Daugaard says it wasn’t until the latter part of last summer when they really started looking at the expansion seriously
Daugaard says they have had a number of meetings since February. They have also met with Avera, Sanford, Rapid City Regional, Long Term Care Provider association boards, and other qualified health centers. However, work continues with Indian Health Services
Daugaard says within the next month he needs to sit down and have the numbers with his staff’s explanations about where the savings can be had, and if there is enough money from each of the opportunities to offset the cost of Medicaid expansion, then he’ll weigh the options of either a special session, or waiting until next year.
