The crop acreage reporting deadline for farmers to their Farm Service Agency offices is July 15. Joe Schultz, South Dakota’s Acting Chief Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency says farmers usually report right after planting and so far their FSA offices across the state have been busy taking the reports and certifying them.
He says producers need to include in their report aerial photographs or maps for each field and then document that information.
Schultz says producers can e-mail their maps to their local FSA office and their workers and the farmers have become more proficient with the technology which has helped with the process.
Schultz advises farmers to get this reporting done as soon as possible because they’ll likely need that for their crop insurance reporting and with the current drought, that may become even more important.
