A South Dakota FFA member is up for one of the top honors at the 93rd Annual National FFA Convention this week. Cole Schock of the McCook Central FFA Chapter is one of the four finalists nationwide vying for American Star in Agricultural Placement. He’s being recognized for his job experience in the dairy industry, which includes his present position with Select Sires.
Schock says his passion for dairying started when he worked on his grandpa’s farm. While he wanted to own his own operation, the capital required to get into the business was a big challenge. So, he chose to work in the industry.
But he says his experiences in FFA have also helped shaped his career path.
Schock says being a star finalist still hasn’t sunk in yet but its quite an honor to be considered for this top FFA award. He’ll find out the results on October 28 as part of the National FFA Convention, which is being held virtually this year due to the pandemic.
