The South Dakota State FFA Convention wrapped up yesterday in Brookings. Foundation President Sandy Osterday says it was a successful convention for members who participated in their Day of Service Project. Students helped package nearly 70,000 meals for hungry families in the state.
She says the Meals of Hope project helps teach FFA members the importance of service to others and community, which is part of the FFA motto.
Someone that is no stranger to service is Jim Chilson, Florence FFA Chapter Advisor. He announced he is retiring after 43-years of teaching ag education. He says it was a rewarding job.
Chilson had a long string of winners in the agriscience division on a state and national level and this year was no exception. He says we’ve just scratched the surface regarding technology use in agriculture.
The convention concluded up with the and results from the Career Development Events and election of the new state FFA officers including:
