The South Dakota Farmers Union will be hosting their annual policy meeting July 22. District 7 Board Director Chad Johnson of Groton says they’ll be discussing several issues including this year’s drought impacts and the cattle market competition problem.
He says they also talk about the recent decision to allow producers who have cover crops on prevent plant acreage to chop that for forage due to the drought prior to November 1.
Johnson says policy development is a grassroots effort and their recommendations will be brought up before the full membership at their annual convention where that policy will be finalized.
All special orders and policy changes must be submitted to the state Farmers Union office or sdfu@sdfu.org by July 19.
