The 2015 South Dakota Legislative session ended on Monday with lawmakers wrapping up business and considering vetoes issued by the Governor. Overall the session was a successful one for agriculture and for those measures deemed a priority by the South Dakota Farmers Union. Legislative Director Matt Sibley says they were very pleased with passage of measures dealing with water quality and drainage.
Sibley says another water quality measure was passed by lawmakers which will be beneficial for farmers and ranchers.
Sibley says their third major legislative win was when lawmakers passed the stray voltage bill.
Sibley says his group was torn at the solution found in passing the roads and bridges legislation. He says while the issue needed to be dealt with, it still doesn’t address the property tax burden faced in the state by taxpayers.
