South Dakota Farmers Union members are holding their Legislative Day in Pierre today. President Doug Somkbe says they’re centering on four key issues including: the funding of nursing homes, industrial hemp production, fake meat labeling and the push for E30 in the state fleet.
He says the “petri dish bill” is an important one for the state’s livestock producers because only meat that comes from an animal should be labeled as such.
Sombke says he doesn’t understand why Governor Noem is opposed to the Hemp Bill because she backed it when it came up at the federal level.
Sombke says he expects a good turnout from their membership, and they look forward to meeting with state lawmakers and the Governor.
