Beresford, South Dakota farmer Jed Olbertson has started a fire relief fund to help cattle producers impacted by wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. He says his effort has already generated a number of hay donations.

He says they also started a fund for cash donations at the State Bank of Alcester. Olbertson says the initial purpose was to help the truckers hauling hay by reimbursing them for fuel.

Olbertson says the other ways people can make donations is through the South Dakota Farm Bureau or by going to the website at SD High Plains Fire Relief.

The wildfires in the four-state area have already burned over a million acres and thousands of head of cattle have died. Many of the producers effected by the fire also helped out South Dakota producers who lost animals during the ATLAS blizzard in 2013.
