South Dakota Farmer Opposes Organic Check Off Idea

An Organic trade group says it will ask for an organic check off in the early part of next year. Organic producer Charlie Johnson farms near Madison, South Dakota. He opposes such a program and says it’s not needed.
Johnson doesn’t like the idea of adding another layer between the organic producer and the consumer who already has great trust for the organic farmers and what they produce.
The Organic Trade Association which is pushing for the check off says their program would be different from other check off programs because it would cover a production process rather than a specific product and also cover the whole industry and not just one level of production.
