Senate Bill 24, the Governor’s legislation to extend rules on non meandered waters passed out of the South Dakota Senate this week on a 26 to 9 vote. South Dakota Farmers Union backed the measure. Lobbyist Mitch Richter says it extends a compromise reached last summer that protect property rights of landowners and gives sportsmen some access.

He says with the extension there’s time to work out any bugs with the rule but currently he’s heard of no major complaints with it.

Richter says all of the state’s agriculture groups are in favor of the legislation and hope to see the House take it up and approve it as well.

SB 24 is now in the House where Representatives may craft some amendments to it or pass or reject it as is.
