Farm Bureau leaders continue to monitor the movement of key agricultural measures in the South Dakota legislature. Farm Bureau Lobbyist Mike Held says they support Governor Dennis Daugaard’s Buffer Bill, which passed in the Senate last week.
He says Farm Bureau likes the tax break provided to farmers in the buffer legislation.
Held says there are also three bills under consideration that would fund the new Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab at S.D.S.U. One they have concerns with is the Governor’s proposal, which calls for the agricultural industry to contribute $46 million to the lab. It would be partially funded by six agricultural user fees.
Further discussion on lab funding bills are expected this week in the South Dakota Legislature.
