The South Dakota Farm Bureau is backing a watershed bill that passed the State House and is up in the State Senate this week. Farm Bureau Lobbyist Mike Held says the measure calls for reorganizing watershed districts that had dissolved earlier.

He says the legislation calls for Conservation Districts to hold elections for representatives to govern the watersheds.

Held says one of the best aspects of the bill is that it provides for local control.
Held says having local groups run the watersheds will be beneficial for that area’s environment as well as for agriculture.
