The South Dakota Department of Transportation has been awarded a $12 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant. This money will help rebuild the rail line between Chamberlain and Presho.

Todd Yeaton, Chairman of the State Rail Board, says they can now move on to work on that line…

Yeaton says the project will begin in Chamberlain and work west…

The total project will cost about twenty nine million dollars, with the rail board, legislature and local governments covering the majority of the costs.

Yeaton says they think there will be enough traffic on the line to pay it back…

About forty two miles of rail line will be improved.

South Dakota Wheatgrowers is planning a major elevator – loading facility in Presho connected to the rail line.
