South Dakota’s legislature has accepted another resignation, this time from its District 9 Representative. Steve Hickey, a Sioux Falls Republican, has served five years but says he’s headed to pursue a doctorate related to Christian ethics.
Hickey will resign officially on September 1st, but he says that he believes he’s done in five years what most need six years to do.
He hopes South Dakota will continue to work on the racial problems associated with the state’s tribes and hopes to continue his involvement after pursuing his Ph.D.
Governor Dennis Daugaard will appoint a new District 9 representative this fall after nominations have been collected.
