Democrats in the South Dakota legislature are pushing Medicaid expansion back on the legislative agenda. The expansion, mostly funded by the federal government, would extend insurance coverage to about forty eight thousand low income people.

Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says the state is being short changed by waiting…

Some lawmakers are concerned because the state would have to pay the ten percent by 2020. Hunhoff says that is a poor excuse for not expanding now…

Some states have had success with waivers that allow then to adjust parts of the program. Hunhoff says a federal official will be in Pierre this week to talk about that…

Hunhoff took part in the first District 18 legislative coffee of the session on Saturday in Yankton.
