Congress is debating immigration reform for “dreamers” or young immigrants. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post hopes that leads to serious discussions regarding reform legislation for immigrant agricultural workers.
Members of Congress are looking at the possibility of providing citizenship for those young immigrants. Post says citizenship for immigrant ag workers isn’t the primary concern, it’s having a method in place so they can stay in the U.S. legally and work and provide for their families.
Post says not only are immigrant laborers needed in the dairy industry but also in other areas of production agriculture as well as some non ag jobs.
Post is hoping Congress will get to Immigration Reform for Agricultural workers and come up with a plan that works for everybody.
