People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA wants the Food and Drug Administration to ban cow’s milk from unhealthy cows and expand and modernize the definition of milk. FDA is currently considering the dairy industry’s request that plant based milks be banned because they fail to meet the definition of milk. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association Executive Director Roger Scheibe says PETA’ s demand is outlandish.

PETA officials charge that government regulations currently allow pus from infected cows in every jug of cow’s milk. They also call on the FDA to define as illegal any milk obtained from cows with mastitis. Scheibe says milk is perfectly safe and healthy and that any unhealthy milk is thrown out.

Scheibe says there’s a big difference between plant based milk and milk that comes from cows.

Scheibe says PETA is following their agenda which calls for humans not to consume milk or meat.
