When a couple wants to get married in South Dakota, the first legal stop they make is at the county Register of Deeds office to fill out the marriage license application. Today’s ruling by the US Supreme Court allowing same sex marriage is causing those offices to scramble to prepare.
Yankton County Register of Deeds Brian Hunhoff says they have already had discussions about the forms being used………….
Hunhoff says they should get some new forms shortly………….
Hunhoff says if a same sex couple came in today wanting to fill out a marriage license application, he would not turn them away………
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley issued a release stating: “Because we are a Nation of laws the State will be required to follow the Court’s order that every State must recognize and license same-sex marriage.”
