South Dakota Corn Growers Want Solid Crop Insurance In New Farm Bill

South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association members shared their concerns about the upcoming farm bill with Senator John Thune at a roundtable meeting in Sioux Falls on Thursday. Executive Director Lisa Richardson says they want to make sure Congress passes farm legislation that provides a solid crop insurance program.

She says its critical Congress complete the new farm bill this year rather than extending it.

Richardson says some growers are looking at possibly changing their farm bill participation moving from the ARC to the PLC program but if there’s an extension that wouldn’t be allowed.

Richardson says the new farm bill is taking on added importance for corn growers given the recent upheaval with attacks on the ethanol industry and trade retaliation taking place against U.S. agriculture.
