The U.S. and Mexico have a new North American Free Trade Agreement framework. South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Troy Knecht says he’s pleased they came to a deal and is hoping for normalization of trade between Mexico and the United States.

He says Mexican is a major market for U.S. corn and having this agreement in place is very positive.

Knecht says it remains to be seen whether or not the U.S. can pull Canada into a full NAFTA deal but he is hopeful that will happen.

U.S. Trade Representative Robert LIghthizer says he will send a notification letter to Congress later this week to withdraw from the current NAFTA and sign a new agreement with Mexico.
