Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow is getting ready to lead the Senate Ag Committee once again following the changeover of majority from Republican to Democrat. One of the first major tasks will be the start of writing the new farm bill. South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association President Scott Stahl says his group is ready to be engaged in those discussions. He says they want the new farm bill to provide market opportunities for growers rather than ad hoc government payments as was seen during the pandemic.
He says one of their primary goals is making sure Congress retains a solid crop insurance program in the new farm legislation.
Stahl says it’s not just ag policy that Congress will be setting when the craft the new farm bill, that it’s mainly food policy they’ll be putting together.
South Dakota Corn Grower Association members will be holding their annual conference Saturday January 16 virtually.
