More than 200 farmers and ethanol supporters participated in a tractor rally in Sioux Falls Wednesday to voice their concerns about the war on biofuels led by the EPA Chief, who was visiting the state. Speakers including South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Troy Knecht called for Administrator Scott Pruitt to follow the President’s request and allow sales of E15 year-round. Knecht says if he can’t do that, he should be removed from his position.
Knecht says although it’s too late for this driving season, Pruitt has the authority to allow summertime E15 sales, which would boost ethanol production and corn prices.
American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says Pruitt also continues to undermine the Renewable Fuels Standard with 1.5 billion gallons of plant waivers, which he believes is politically motivated.
Doug Berven, vice president of corporate affairs for POET, says ethanol is the solution to the economic struggles in rural America, but the industry is being sabotaged by Big Oil.
Pruitt dodged the state’s Congressional offices and met with representatives of the National Sorghum Growers Association and other farmers at the Adam Schindler farm near Reliance on Wednesday.
