South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson says he’s continuing to work on legislation to bring more transparency to the cattle markets. He’s also putting forward his Direct Act bill to allow state inspected meat to be sold across state lines.
He says while there are some different plans out there to require packers to purchase a different amount of cattle from the spot market in order to provide fairer markets, getting government involved in that process can become a little tricky.
Johnson says what’s needed is an increase in cattle market transparency that could be helped by having a cattle market library available.
Johnson was a guest on Drive Time last week on WNAX.
