Following the election earlier this month, Republicans are expected to pick up a few seats on most of the committees including agriculture. That’s according to South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson who was re-elected.

He says there are two frontrunners for the House Ag Committee Chairman post to replace Collin Peterson of Minnesota who lost his re-election bid, although it’s a bit murky as to who the Speaker of the House will choose for that post.

Johnson says they’re already starting discussions in preparing to put together the new farm bill.

Johnson doesn’t expect any major changes to the crop insurance program as part of the farm bill as He says that program is working well.
