A South Dakota start-up company, Provender Technologies has received a $100,000 USDA grant. Henry Wegehaupt who grew up on farm near Dimock and graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology developed an automated cattle ration mixing and feed delivery system.

He says one of the main goals is to give the producer more flexibility in running his or her operation by reducing the number of hours they have to spend on manual labor.

Wegenhaupt hopes his system will be cost effective and he intends to work with existing operations to achieve that and build on what they already have in place.

The grant from the USDA will fund eight months of research and development of Wegehaupt’s cattle feeding system. If that proves to be successful he will be eligible to apply for a larger Phase II grant.
