New regulations in South Dakota Commercial Drivers Licensing are now being implemented. Jane Schrank, the director of the driver licensing program says just one of the changes made was increasing the minimum age to apply for a CDL from 16 to 18, and commercial learners’ permits can now be transferred across states.

Schrank says there are also several new restrictions in place and some existing restrictions that are changing. She says that those with a current commercial license won’t have to make any changes until their license expires.

She says that the changes were made in order for South Dakota to remain in compliance with federal regulations.
