The Covid 19 rescue package agreed to in Congress contains provisions to help agriculture. The legislation includes $9.5 billion in programs to help livestock producers as well as funding for the Commodity Credit Corporation. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says it’s encouraging lawmakers included livestock producers and all of agriculture with the assistance.

He says another round of Market Facilitation Program payments are needed and hopefully livestock producers will be included for that help.

Jennings says one way to fix the MFP program to help those livestock producers who have the greatest need for help is contained in a formula the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association has come up with.

Both Cattlemen groups and Biofuel organizations have asked Congress for aid to help with the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
